SAYEED & SAYEED is a firm catering to the needs of commercial, financial and industrial entities based in Pakistan and abroad, and continues a
practice originally established by its senior partner in 1968 and formerly carried on under the name of Qadir H. Sayeed & Associates.
The senior partner and associates of the Firm have been prominent in the domain of law for over 35 years and the unblemished record stretching over that span of time bears an adequate testimony to the qualitative and positive approach that has marked their proceedings in the solution of complex legal issues.
Being fully aware that the success of any firm is measured by the success of the client, it is the aim of all the partners and associates of the firm to properly appreciate the individual requirements and particular objectives of each client and to accomplish the expeditious and qualitative attainment of such objectives to the utmost satisfaction of the clients’ interests. Our ultimate aim is for clients to make us their first choice and for our firm to become an extension of their organisation.
Some of the more prominent organisations being represented by the Firm include the Karachi Stock Exchange (Guarantee) Limited, the Aga Khan University & Hospital, Indus Motor Company Limited, CGU International Insurance plc, Metropolitan Bank Limited, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, MVCI Europe Limited, MVCI Management (Europe) Limited, Cogetex S.A., and ABN AMRO Bank N.V.
Recently, the Firm has successfully represented several manufacturing concerns against the Province of Sindh and the Department of Excise & Taxation in several petitions assailing the levy of permit fee and vend fee on methanol cumulatively amounting to almost Rs.2 Billion, making it perhaps the biggest public revenue matter to date relating to fees and excise duty, and is presently representing the same parties before the Supreme Court of Pakistan in the appeals appertaining thereto filed by the Province and the Department. The Firm is also presently representing domestic and foreign automotive companies in a product liability suit entailing a claim for damages of US$25 Million, and a multinational insurance company in a suit pertaining to a reinsurance claim of Rs.50 Million.
The Firm has also represented the largest domestic courier company against the Pakistan Post Office and the Federation of Pakistan in a petition assailing the vires of action threatened by the PPO on the basis of an alleged infringement of the PPO’s exclusive privilege in respect of the carriage of letters, and frequently represented various foreign concerns in litigation relating to arbitration proceedings conducted before the Liverpool Cotton Association and other arbitral forums.
We have an affiliation with SAJJAD LAW ASSOCIATES, a renowned law firm established in 1968 by Mr. Wasim Sajjad, which has offices at Lahore and Islamabad, and are hence able to provide a comprehensive and coordinated service in most of Pakistan’s major urban centres and service the needs of our clients by ensuring, amongst other things, that sufficient resources are available at any given time to meet the fluctuating demands of our clients.
